The Royal Naval Dockyard’s FREE Historical Re-Enactment & Walking Tour is making history happen! Come, watch and participate in this interactive and educational re-enactment, depicting life in the Royal Naval Dockyard in the early 1800s. Our knowledgeable guide and actors (fully dressed in period costume) will transport you to another time, as you take in this enlightening reenactment and tour suitable for all ages. Learn about historical aspects of breakwaters, fortifications, storehouses, workshops, barracks and much more as you stand in the historic and beautiful Victualling Yard!
This experience starts on the Pier and integrates the Walking Tour into the Reenactment as you are led into the Victualling Yard for a short performance. The performance is then followed by the second half of the Walking Tour, which finishes in front of the historic Clocktower building, a landmark that has since been repurposed into a unique shopping mall. During this tour you will visit some of the most interesting places described in the Re-Enactment, putting an image to the story! As you walk amid the historic walls of the Dockyard, you will be able to truly experience what life must have been like for those who walked those same paths so long ago, while seeing what modern Dockyard has to offer.
This Historical Re-Enactment & Walking Tour is offered two times a week from April 24th – October 16th, on Tuesdays and Fridays (with 4 extra dates in October – 6th, 21st, 26th, 31st – on these four dates the start time is 10:30am). The Walking Tour starts on the Pier at 9:45am, leads you into the Victualling Yard for the standstill portion of the Re-Enactment and then finishes in front of the Clocktower Mall.
